The upper terminus of the Alishan Line (阿里山線) of the Alishan Forest Railway at 2,216 meters elevation, and the departure point for branch lines to Zhushan, Zhaoping, and Shenmu. The site was originally the Fourth Switchback (第四分道). After a fire destroyed the settlement at Zhaoping in 1976 a new terminus in Chinese palace style was built here, opening in 1981. That building was condemned after the 921 Earthquake, and its timber replacement, opened in 2007, is now reportedly the largest wooden station in Taiwan.
