A large monument built in 1935 within what is now Alishan National Forest Recreation Area in Alishan, Chiayi. It was intended to console the spirits of the ancient cypresses felled during Japanese colonial era logging operations and to ease anxieties among forestry workers who attributed mysterious deaths and accidents to the wrath of the trees. The ringed base of the pagoda represents tree rings, with each band signifying 500 years of growth.
