Zhuangwei Ren’ai New Village (壯圍仁愛新村) - Spectral Codex

Located in the coastal township of Zhuangwei, Ren’ai New Village (仁愛新村) is one of around 35 communities established around Taiwan after residents of the Dachen Islands were evacuated in 1955. Initially there were around 49 households with 234 residents in this village, and most were employed as fishermen operating out of the nearby Donggang Fishing Port (東港漁港).

Nowadays the vast majority of these old homes are abandoned as residents moved on to more modern housing elsewhere, but a small temple venerating the Dachen Islander God of Fishing (漁師大神) remains. This god is unique in Taiwan and, according to culture workers, is a deification of Tang dynasty official Zhang Zhihe (張志和), who is renowned for his love of fishing. In the 2020s some effort has been invested into developing the area for tourism.
