Tainan American School (原台南美國學校) - Spectral Codex
Tainan American School (原台南美國學校)

Initially established in rented buildings elsewhere in Tainan in 1953, this school eventually moved to a dedicated facility inside the 20 House Compound, off-base residences for families of US Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) personnel managed by the Bank of Taiwan (臺灣銀行). This compound was located on a former Japanese colonial era shooting range. The school provided full kindergarten to grade 12 education for the children of US military families until its closure in 1973, part of the gradual withdrawal of US forces from Taiwan. Over subsequent decades the original structures were gradually dismantled and the site was repurposed as Kaiyuan Zhenxing Park (開元振興公園). Only a small section of the original outer wall remains at the north end of the former compound, although the school itself was located deeper into the park, around where the basketball courts are today.
