Established in 1919 by Lin Lietang (林烈堂) of the Wufeng Lin family (霧峰林家) as Taichung Sugar Manufacturing (臺中製糖株式會社) in Wuri, Taichung. It was absorbed by Tōyō Sugar (東洋製糖株式會社) in 1921 and renamed the Wuri Sugar Factory (烏日製糖所), then merged into Dai-Nippon Sugar (大日本製糖株式會社) in 1927. The factory was in business until 1960, after which the site was sold and repurposed for use by the Taiwan Provincial Tobacco and Liquor Monopoly Bureau (臺灣省菸酒公賣局) and converted into a brewery, today the Wuri Beer Factory (烏日啤酒廠).
