One of three major theaters established in Ximending in 1935, originally operated by Japan’s Shochiku (松竹映畫) as Taiwan-gekijō (臺灣劇場). After the war it was nationalized by the KMT and renamed Taiwan Theater (臺灣戲院). It was renamed to China Theater (中國戲院) in 1961 and became a venue specializing in domestic films (國片). Multiplex competition led to closure in 2001; some remaining equipment was transported to Guanghua Theater in Pingtung City. The site was redeveloped into the 27-story Aman TIT (阿曼TIT), completed in 2012.
