The home of Nakano Kintarō (中野金太郎), a Japanese merchant who arrived in Tamsui in 1895 and moved from innkeeping into freight and petroleum sales, from 1915 until the end of the Japanese colonial era. The two-storey house behind Douglas Lapraik & Co. pairs a Western exterior with Japanese interiors, and from 1955 it housed the director of the navy shipyard. Designated a monument in 2008, it reopened to the public in October 2026 after a five-year restoration.
