The grave of six soldiers from the Zhuosheng Left Battalion (擢勝左營), a Hunanese unit led by Sun Kaihua (孫開華) and stationed at Hobe for coastal defense, all of whom died between August and November of 1881, most likely of disease. Their headstones, cut from Guanyinshan andesite, carry the battalion name along with each man’s home county in Hunan. Sun’s battalions repelled the French landing here in 1884 during the Sino-French War; the graves were designated a municipal monument in 1998 and restored in 2020 as a small roadside park, Hunan Braves Historic Park (湖南勇古蹟園).
