The busiest part of Tamsui, New Taipei, usually taken to mean Zhongzheng Road (中正路), formerly Hobe Street (滬尾街), which runs for about a kilometer and retains some of its long, narrow shophouses. The oldest part is Chongjian Street (重建街), a 600 meter lane on the hillside next to Fuyou Temple (福佑宮), once home to the town’s leading merchants and officials. The end nearest Zhongzheng Road was torn down for road widening in 2010, prompting a protest that stalled the project, and in 2015 the central government ordered the remaining expropriated plots returned to their owners.

I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
