Tainan Kaiji Mazu Temple (臺南開基天壇) - Spectral Codex

Established in 1662 after the pirate-king Koxinga (鄭成功) defeated the Dutch at Fort Provintia, this temple is considered to be the oldest Mazu temple in Taiwan. It still contains an idol carved in 1640 that arrived with Koxinga’s fleet. Heavily damaged during World War 2, it was rebuilt starting in 1948. It is commonly known as the Minor Mazu Temple (小媽祖廟) in relation to the official Grand Mazu Temple (臺南大媽祖廟).
