One of several temples dedicated to Chenghuang (城隍), the City God, in Tainan. It was established in 1711 but relocated and rebuilt many times over the centuries. The temple appearing at this location today was reconstructed in 1980 but according to folk beliefs one of the statues was modelled after Shen Chaopin (沈朝聘), the first magistrate of Taiwan County (臺灣縣). Although the temple itself is not a heritage site its Night Patrol (府城縣城隍夜巡) ceremony is recognized for its cultural value. Under reconstruction in 2026.
