Founded by local gentry in 1953 and opened the following year, this was Sanxia’s second cinema after the Japanese colonial era Sanxia Theater. It initially featured Taiwanese opera before transitioning to film. The first general manager, Li Jingyang (李景暘, 1931–2025), was the eldest son of artist Li Mei-shu and the subject of his painting Child Playing With Turkey (玩弄火雞的小孩). At its peak the theater could accommodate 720 patrons. It closed in the early 1980s and was converted into shopfronts. After a period of abandonment it was renovated and reopened as a commercial market in 2020. As of 2025 it is used as the dining space for a banquet hall.
