Originally established around 1950 by Chen Zhuqi (陳珠祈) and his brother Chen Zhutan (陳珠坦), the brick factory on this site became the most productive in the country, operating around the clock and churning out 400,000 bricks a month. Later the site was redeveloped as part of Tai Lung Steel Plant (泰隆鋼鐵). Somehow the unusual chimney, the top of which bears a striking resemblance to a huabiao (華表), was not demolished, and today stands alongside Qiaohe Road Lane 271 (橋和路271巷) near the riverside in Zhonghe.
