The current building is the second-generation Lucao Township Office (庄役場), constructed in 1936 after the original 1922 structure was damaged by storms and deemed too small. After the war it continued in use as the Lucao Township Office (鹿草鄉公所) until 1982, when it was converted into the township library. The building was registered as a historic building by Chiayi County in 2024 following a heritage report initiated by the Mazhi Biantian Studio (馬芝遴田野工作室), a local civic group.
