Built in 1936 as a residence for senior officials, this detached wooden house is the last of its rank in Yuanlin, where an extensive group of Japanese colonial era offices and dormitories once stood around the district seat. The first occupant was Nomura Masao (野村正男), head of general affairs for Yuanlin District, who left in 1937 to become mayor of Puli; the family of district chief Ikeura Wasaburō (池浦和三郎) took his place and stayed until the end of the war. Changhua County assumed ownership on its formation in 1950 and lent the empty house to the Ministry of National Defense for Major General Wei Penglin (魏蓬林), who had brought troops to the county’s west coast after the retreat from China, earning it the local name General’s Mansion (將軍府). Registered as a historic building in 2020, it sits behind a wall with its roof partly collapsed and no restoration yet underway.
