Built during the Tongzhi reign by Li Shangbo (李上博), a wealthy merchant who emigrated from Anxi in Fujian, this sanheyuan in located in rural Huatan, Changhua. It was originally a two-courtyard compound flanked by four wings, with timber and other materials shipped from the mainland and built by craftsmen brought in from Fujian. The Li family went on to become one of the most prominent in Huatan during the Japanese colonial era, with Li Pengyi (李鵬儀) serving as the township’s first chief. Successive disasters reduced the compound to little more than its central hall, including the August 7 Flood of 1959 , the 921 earthquake of 1999, and a 2001 typhoon. Only the main hall (正身) was registered as a historic building in 2002.
