Houbi Huang Family Residence

A large Minnan-style courtyard house built between 1923 and 1926 for four Huang brothers, merchants and landlords whose holdings once ran across much of Houbi and Baihe. Craftsmen, fir, and stone were all brought over from Fujian; the crescent pond in front marks where clay was dug to fire the bricks. Carved timber panels and majolica tilework survive throughout, with a Japanese-style wing standing to one side. Designated a municipal monument in 2008 and repaired after earthquake damage in 2010, it remains a private residence and can only be seen from outside the wall.
