Houbi Elementary School Teachers’ Dormitories (後壁國小教師宿舍) - Spectral Codex

A pair of teachers’ dormitories facing the main gate of Houbi Elementary School (後壁國小), which split from Jingliao Public School (菁寮公學校) in 1922 and moved to this site the following year. The timber duplex was completed in 1942, quartering four Japanese teachers until the end of the war and local teachers afterwards. Never registered as a heritage building, it stood derelict for more than fifteen years before a Ministry of Culture program for privately held old buildings funded its restoration from 2017. It now houses Puyu Academy (璞育塾), where the Taiwan Puyu Cultural and Educational Development Association (臺灣璞育文教發展協會) provides free tutoring and meals to children in Houbi, while the brick dormitory alongside serves as a visitor information center.
