As with the nearby Dongshan New Village (東山新村), this was established in 1955 to resettle refugees from the Dachen Islands after their retreat in 1955. It was initially home to 107 households and 438 residents, all working in sugarcane cultivation in the early years. Nowadays only a handful of original Dachen Islanders remain in the village, which is poor and remote. Also known as Qingshan (青山).
