A Buddhist temple founded in 1922 and originally known as Penglai Temple (蓬萊寺). In 2002, property developer Wei Mingren (魏明仁) constructed a newer temple on the hillside in front of the old monastery, leading to a dispute over quality and costs. The monks were evicted in 2012 and Wei converted the site into PRC Taiwan Province Socialist Patriotic Education Base (中華人民共和國台灣省社會主義民族思想愛國教育基地), holding Chinese flag-raising ceremonies and replacing Buddhist statues with “Chinese Dream” (中國夢) slogans. In 2018, Changhua County demolished the illegal additions after Wei punched an official, preserving only the 1922 structure and registering it as a historic building. The original nuns won a 2019 auction and restored the temple to Buddhist use.
