This old two-storey clinic was the first medical practice in Danei, Tainan. It was opened in 1934 by Yang Yunü (楊玉女, 1910–2002), daughter of village chief Yang Yunxiang, whose former residence stands nearby. Yang trained at the Tokyo Women’s Medical College and returned home as a public physician (公醫), a rare appointment for a woman at the time. She ran the clinic with the Japanese midwife Mitsuhashi Ren (三橋蓮), who took Taiwanese citizenship after the war as Yang Jinlian (楊金蓮); the present building dates to a reconstruction in 1952, and the pair kept the practice open until 1987. Now it sits idle, a reminder of the public health history of this small town.
