Traces of an old Shinto shrine can be found against the hills at the back of Danei, Tainan, immediately behind what is now known as Danei Elementary School (大內國小). It was constructed in 1938 for the use of the school, and although the main hall (本殿) was destroyed long ago, several stone lanterns and parts of the original landscaping have been preserved.
Four stone lanterns on the approach to the platform that would have held the main hall.
The same space shot on an angle; there is little else to be found here.
Looking back from the top of the short flight of stairs.
A simple residence next to the former site of the main hall. The fencing here is part of the original shrine.
I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
