Established in 1959 to honor members of the Hunan Army (湘軍) slain in battle with the Tayal Indigenous people of the area in the mid-1880s. This site previously gathered the remains collected in the Japanese colonial era after a nearby hillside was cultivated for sweet potatoes. It was originally known as Junmin Temple (軍民廟) but it was renamed during an expansion in 1985.
