Erected in 1917 to commemorate 29 porters killed in a Tayal ambush while transporting supplies along the Old Official Road (老官道) in January 1899. The attack stemmed from a trade dispute between Hoklo settlers and Taiwanese Indigenous people of the area. It was relocated and restored when Liyutan Reservoir (鯉魚潭水庫) was constructed.
