The oldest museum in Taiwan, founded in 1908 as the Taiwan Government-General Museum (臺灣總督府博物館) and now the flagship of a small network of branches scattered around historic buildings in the old walled city of Taipei. Its main hall, a neoclassical structure on the north side of 228 Peace Memorial Park, was completed in 1915 and is designated a national monument.
