Initially a public swimming pool, it was converted into a wooden concert hall (南陽音樂廳) in the post-war era and then into a cinema in 1960. It became a popular hangout for gay men in the late 1960s, partly due to its proximity to what is now the 228 Peace Park, a popular cruising spot. It was demolished in 1971 and replaced by the Xinfeng Building (新豐大樓). This theater appears in Crystal Boys (孽子), a famous work of queer Taiwanese literature.
