Taiwan Provincial Chenghuang Temple (臺灣省城隍廟) - Spectral Codex

A city god temple on Wuchang Street established in 1947 after unsuccessful efforts to reclaim the site of the original Qing dynasty Chenghuang Temple, which had been demolished during the Japanese colonial era. Its deities were housed at various locations over the years before being reunited here. The founders originally intended to name it after the old Taipei Prefecture temple but the term was considered outdated, so they settled on “Taiwan Provincial”, a designation that now carries its own anachronism given the effective dissolution of Taiwan Province as a governing entity. In 2011 the temple further elevated its deity to “Capital City God” (京師城隍) to reflect Taipei’s status as the capital of ROC.
