Yuanlin Guangning Temple

A small yet ornate temple beside Yuanlin First Market in the oldest commercial district of Yuanlin. It was jointly established around 1726 by immigrants from Guangdong and Fujian Province under the name Guangfu Temple (廣福宮). Some time later the Fujian community founded their own temple and the two were named Guangning and Funing. This particular temple primarily venerates Sanshan Guowang (三山國王), the Three Mountain Kings, and in the Japanese colonial era the authorities used it as a Japanese language school, forerunner of Yuanlin Elementary School. It most recently underwent a complete reconstruction in 1976 and now features camphor hardwood doors with carved rather than painted door gods.
