The original Guohua Theater (國華戲院) opened around 1967 as a standalone cinema on the then-new Zhongzheng Road, founded by National Assembly representative Zhou Daye (周大業). As Yonghe developed rapidly, the building was demolished and replaced by the current Guohua Commercial Building (國華商業大樓), completed in 1993. The third floor retained a two-screen theater. It closed around 2002 amid competition from new multiplexes. Some evidence of the theater is visible on Google Street View in history mode but nothing remains on-site as of the mid-2020s.
