Bunun Indigenous people were forcibly resettled here in the late 1930s. A Shinto shrine was also built on a small hilltop in the village next to what is now the township office. There was a plaque next to the site until around 2023, when the entire hilltop was razed as part of a construction project. It may have been formally known as Taoyuan Shinto Shrine (桃源神社).
