This peculiar landmark near the Rende Interchange (仁德交流道) in Rende is a unfinished residence seven-storeys tall, all built by hand by the now-elderly homeowner. The resident, a man with the family name Mao (毛), began building it in 1962, initially to a height of two or three storeys, but even then it was constructed in an idiosyncratic style. The most recent round of expansion began after a road widening project in 1985, but the owner either grew too frail, or maybe ran out of funding, and the building has been left unfinished for many decades now.
