Mhebu (馬赫坡社) was the Seediq community of Mona Rudao (莫那魯道), leader of the Wushe Incident, on land now occupied by Lushan Hot Springs. On November 5th, 1930, Indigenous fighters engaged a Japanese company on Butuc (一文字高地), a ridge above the village at about 1,300 meters, killing 15 soldiers and capturing two light machine guns and 17 rifles. Nantou County designated the battlefield a historic site in 2019, together with a nearby trail on which the Seediq were forced to carry cypress beams to Wushe (霧社), one of the grievances behind the uprising. The open plaza with its memorial, lookout tower, and inscribed boulder lies apart from the trenches and dry-stone walls, which are to the north in overgrown and less accessible terrain.
