One of several dependents’ villages built around the Navy Fourth Shipyard (海軍第四造船廠) at Beishanwei (北汕尾) on Qijin Island, Kaohsiung. From 1952 the shipyard built two dormitories for single technicians on the site of a former Japanese navy warehouse, and its workers built Pukou New Village (浦口新村) for 16 households of field-grade officers and Dinghai New Village (定海新村) for 64 households of married technicians. Later expansion added Changtu New Village (長塗新村) with 28 households and Changfeng Second Village (長風二村) with 50, the latter donated by the National Women’s League (婦聯會) for junior officers and foremen. The last single technician left in 2011, and in 2014 the Ministry of National Defense handed the dormitory area to the sociology department of National Sun Yat-sen University (國立中山大學) for a community revitalization project.

I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
