A historic temple to Mazu in Cijin, Kaohsiung, laying claim to the title of the oldest such shrine in the city. It traces its origins to 1673, in the Ming-Zheng era, when Xu Ahua (徐阿華), a Fujian fisherman blown here by a typhoon, returned with six families and an image of Mazu from Meizhou (湄洲) to construct a thatched shrine on the site. It was rebuilt in stone in 1765, renamed Tianhou Temple in 1887, and given its present two-hall layout in 1926.
