Jingye New Village (敬業新村) was established around 1950 in the vicinity of Yilan Shinto Shrine and next to the former Yamuliao Military Base (鴨母寮營區) in Yuanshan, Yilan County. In 1995 it was merged with Xingguo New Village (興國新村) and rebuilt into Jingcheng New City (敬業新城), a set of four apartment blocks accommodating 140 households with a standard design representative of the era. Sometime in the late 2000s or early 2010s it was depopulated, leaving only empty buildings on site, awaiting rejuvenation or demolition.

The right-hand gatepost has been toppled by forces unknown.
A former activity center (活動中心) faces the gate to the community.
The depopulated community presents a mournful scene at dusk.

I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
