Established in 1993 by a local owner surnamed Chen (陳), Shanming Theater stands on Zhongshan Road in Puli. It closed after the 921 Earthquake in 1999, and in 2005 was taken over by Hong Yigeng (洪乙賡) and Kang Liqiu (康麗秋), a couple from a three-generation family of projectionists; Hong had worked the projectors at the nearby Tianyi and Ludu (綠都戲院) cinemas. The couple split it into two screens and later converted to digital projection, leaving Shanming the last surviving cinema in Puli. There was also a bowling alley of the same name in the basement.
