Gaole Theater occupied a building on Zhongshan Road in Puli, Nantou, that began as the Puli Youth Hall (埔里青年會館) and was later renamed the Puli Education Hall (埔里教化會館). In the post-war era the local government sold the structure to a private operator, who converted it into a cinema with a capacity of 800. On May 31st, 1967, the roof collapsed without warning; years of neglect had left the timber framing rotted and unable to bear its load. Eleven spectators were injured in the collapse and the theater was closed and soon demolished.
