Baye at Puli Chenghuang Temple (埔里瀛海城隍廟)

Established in 1887 as an official temple during Qing administration of the Puli Basin, with a city god statue said to have been brought from Tainan’s Luermen (鹿耳門) in 1846. The original temple burned down in 1894 and was rebuilt several times before the 921 Earthquake in 1999 left only the rear hall standing. After a protracted two-decade reconstruction the temple was finally completed in 2019, with city god temples from across Taiwan sending delegations to celebrate.
