Puli Baohu Temple (埔里寶湖宮)

This immense complex, with sweeping views across the Puli Basin, is the principal center of worship in Taiwan for Dimu Zunshen (地母尊神), the Earth Mother. It traces its origins to an altar raised by the Liang family in 1917, during the Japanese colonial era, with the temple itself founded in 1947. Reputed to sit on an especially strong field of earth energy, it is a major destination on the huilingshan (會靈山) pilgrimage circuit, a movement combining pilgrimage with personal spiritual cultivation that emerged around 1991. It is also known as Taiwan’s Cyan House (台版青瓦台) for its blue glazed roof tiles.
