Wanggaoliao Artillery Emplacements (戰後望高寮砲堡群) - Spectral Codex

The Wanggaoliao Artillery Emplacement Group (戰後望高寮砲堡群) is a cluster of four post-war gun emplacements perched on the southern end of the Dadu Plateau (大肚台地) at an elevation of 294 meters overlooking the Dadu River estuary toward Changhua. Built in 1976 by the Ministry of National Defense in response to the opening of Taichung Port, the four reinforced concrete emplacements once housed 8-inch howitzers capable of suppressing the river mouth and reaching as far as the Shengang coastal zone. The emplacements were operated by a single artillery company on a rotational basis and were never permanently garrisoned.

Designated historic buildings by the Taichung City Government in 2006, the group was officially renamed in 2013 to better reflect their function. The site is locally known as Donghai Old Fort (東海古堡) and is a popular spot for taking in night views of both the city and the coastline. The emplacements are part of a broader system of Dadu Plateau fortifications deployed between 1975 and 1983, alongside the Lincuo anti-airborne position further north.
