Established during the Japanese colonial era in 1908, this historic hydroelectric plant harnesses the waters of the Laonong River (荖濃溪). Outflow was channelled into a canal that provided irrigation waters for much of Meinong. The plant underwent modernization in 2009, replacing its original German and Swiss machinery with new equipment that increased its capacity. Although not necessarily open to the public you might get lucky by making an inquiry at the front office. It is also worth watching for a monument to the completion of the power plant (竹子門電廠竣工紀念碑) on the approach to the site.
