Built in 1839 on Houche Lane (後車巷), this unassuming ward gate was one of dozens scattered around Lukang. In addition to discouraging thievery, they were also placed between different immigrant groups to prevent inter-group violence. It is the only one to survive the urban planning reforms of the Japanese colonial era, and was rebuilt in 1979. The original passage was three doors: a set of two next to a single portal, traces of which can still be seen on the lintel above.
