Built in 1935 as the official residence of the Lukang town mayor (街長), the highest local official following the 1920 administrative reform. The second mayor, Yoshida Hidejirō (吉田秀治郎), was likely its first occupant, and successive mayors lived here until 1943. It is the only surviving Japanese colonial era official residence in Lukang, setting it apart from the Minnan architecture for which this historic town is known. It was damaged in the 921 Earthquake of 1999 and later restored. Nowadays it operates as the Lukang History Museum (鹿港鎮史館).
