Lukang Saltworks

Lukang was the site of the northernmost solar salt production fields in Taiwan. It was originally developed by Yamato Takushoku Co., Ltd. (大和拓殖株式會社) in the late Japanese colonial era. The operation was integrated into the state-owned Taiwan salt company in the post-war era and renamed Lukang Saltworks (鹿港鹽場). The output was never as consistent as the fields down south and operations ceased around 1964, with most structures eventually demolished, leaving only the faint trace of an outline visible in satellite maps.
