Completed in 1866, this filial arch honors Zhang Zaoniang (張棗娘), wife of Zheng Yongjin (鄭用錦), younger brother of Zheng Yongxi (鄭用錫), the first imperial scholar born and educated in Taiwan. Zhang was widowed early and raised her children alone, earning the respect and devotion of her son Zheng Rulan (鄭如蘭), who championed the building of the archway. It was in an extremely dilapidated state in the late 20th century but it was restored to its current condition and declared a city monument, one of four such arches preserved in Hsinchu.
