Hsinchu Jincheng New Village

A military dependents’ village established primarily for families of army officers stationed in Kinmen, and nicknamed the Generals’ Village (將軍村) on account of the senior ranks housed here. The first homes went up in the late 1950s, with a second batch reportedly paid for by selling scrap shell casings left over from the 1958 bombardment of Kinmen. It was depopulated around 2011 and was going to be destroyed in 2014 but 15 buildings were preserved and registered as heritage the following year, ostensibly as part of a future library planned for development in this part of Hsinchu.
