A wooden residence completed in 1943, late in the Japanese colonial era, as a private clubhouse for three Japanese businessmen with interests in the nearby entertainment district of Hsinchu. After the war it became the residence of Dr. Li Kecheng (1909–1986), the first person from the city to earn a doctorate in medicine. The city later took possession and moved to sell the house in 2006, but after a public campaign it was recognized for its heritage value, restored, and reopened to the public as a restaurant.
