An important Mazu temple located within the former walled city of Hsinchu, known as the inner Mazu temple in contrast to Changhe Temple outside the north gate. It traces its history back to 1748, when officials built it near the west gate, and it drew mainly Hakka worshippers from the surrounding countryside. The original was demolished for road widening in the Japanese colonial era and the present temple dates to 1962.
