An early Japanese colonial era sugar factory established in rural Changhua in 1910. It was heavily damaged by US bombing in World War 2 and sugar production did not resume until 1947. Not long thereafter the site was judged unsuitable for sugar production and the factory finally closed in 1953. In the early 1980s the entire area was converted into residential units. The legacy of the factory lives on in street names in the neighborhood.
