Constructed in 1926, it was one of eleven large-scale granaries built by the Japanese colonial government. It was listed as a potential heritage site in April 2016 but the farmers’ association almost immediately began demolition work. Public outcry and an official court order halted the destruction but only one third of the original structure remains. As of 2025 it is undergoing restoration.
